The Sanyo Xacti will record at a resolution of 640x480 and record still images at 6 megapixels. The video and still images are recorded to a memory card. The VPC-E1 can record up to 1 hour and 20 minutes per 1GB of memory. Since it uses a memory card instead of relying on internal memory adding additional memory is as easy as inserting a new memory card.
Having 5x optical zoom in a camcorder is a pretty good feature. Having 5x optical zoom in a camcorder as small as the Xacti VPC-E1 is even more impressive. Using the optical zoom preserves image quality over using digital zooms. This comes in especially handy while filming underwater where that coral reef can really stand out.
Images are easy to see on land or at sea on the generously sized 2.5 inch LCD display. The LCD display rotates up to 285 degrees that allows you to shoot from virtually any angle. This feature is especially appreciated when shooting underwater.
 

Future Proof:  

While the Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 has some pretty nice features, it won’t be too long before you see a model at this price and these features that also does HD recording. Look for even more waterproof HD models at next year’s PMA.

Value:  

At $549.99, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 might seem to be a little over priced. The VPC-E1 records excellent video quality (even though it’s not HD) and is waterproof. This makes it one of the better values in camcorders for water enthusiasts.

Style:  

The VPC-E1 is available in 3 eye-catching colors and has better than average features such as 5x optical zoom and its 2.5 inch LCD screen. Sure you can buy other waterproof camcorders, but they probably can’t match the Xacti VPC-E1’s great feature set and image quality.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 is the avid snorkler’s dream. It can go anywhere that you dare take it.
