Sony brought their latest gadget, for the beginning of 2009, to PMA and it was something to write home about. With new technologies and a sleek look from Sony, the DSC-HX1 is something we’ll continue to hear more about. This camera, although not quite a DSLR, is far above your average point and shoot.
Sony, as per usual, likes to keep their products state-of-the-art and top-of-the-line and other phrases that require multiple hyphens. They took it one step farther with the DSC-HX1. The HX1 incorporates a number of new and cutting edge technologies that photo enthusiasts are sure to love.
The Sweep Panorama technology allows users to take extra long or extra tall panorama pictures with the click of one button. Sure other cameras can do panoramic scenes as well, but that usually involves taking several pictures and then overlaying them. But with the HX1, you just push the button once, capture your image and then release it. The incorporated BIONZ imaging processor will put the image all together to create your complete panoramic image.
But Sony didn’t stop there. The DSC-HX1 can also record HD movies at 1080p and has a continuous shooting mode of 10 fps while still maintaining a 9.1 megapixel resolution.
Sony has packed the DSC-HX1 with a lot of cutting edge features. The Sweep Panorama technology is sure to impress users for years to come and we think we’ll start to see it included in more models, at least more Sony models.
At nearly $500 the HX1 is pricey for a point and shoot camera. However, it has so many features that it is bordering on both a decent DSLR and camcorder.
It’s sleek and fancy. The HX1 caught our eye not only because it had cool new features, but it also just plain looked nice. In a world of nearly all-black cameras, the HX1, although still black, is designed to get attention and it worked.
If looks were all that mattered, the DSC-HX1 would be near the top of our list anyway. But it also packs a punch in features that will make some DSLRs look shabby next to it. We expect that its Sweep Panorama technology, new in this model, will be something Sony will continue to incorporate in all its cameras.
